Inspect the treatment carts and medication carts/rooms on at least a weekly basis to ensure that they are maintained in a clean, safe and appropriately stocked condition. Report problem areas to the DON or designee and assist in developing corrective action. Inform the DON or designee when physician visits are not made in a timely manner. Encourage attending physicians to sign progress notes, physician’s orders, etc. on a timely basis and according to regulations. Ensure that departmental disciplinary action is administered fairly and in compliance with established disciplinary procedures. Delegate to each Charge Nurse the authority, responsibility and accountability necessary to perform his or her assigned duties.

Participate actively in various committee meetings of the department and/or facility as requested by the DON or designee.
